Lord Mayor of the City of London visits Egypt

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Rt. Hon Alderman Michael Bear visited Egypt last week in his role as ambassador for London-based financial and professional services. He heads the City of London Corporation, which provides business and local government services to the City.

The purpose of the Lord Mayor’s visit to Egypt was to build upon the already strong economic and political links between the two countries, to discuss how the UK and the City of London, as the leading global financial services centre, can work with Egypt to enhance its financial services sectors especially that the UK is a leading interlocutor on economic reform plus PPP, ICT and education.

The Lord Mayor prior to his visit to Egypt has announced: "I am delighted to be here because of the UK's longstanding and continuing commitment to the Egyptian market. Egypt has had a glorious and challenging year and our partnership means now more than ever to both our countries."

The Lord Mayor was accompanied by a business delegation including organisations from the Financial Services, Education and Skills Development, Construction and ICT sectors. They undertook calls on the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of Egypt, British Egyptian Business Association and met with other organisations throughout their two-day programme.

The Lord Mayor also took part in meetings with the Egyptian British Business Council (EBBC) and saw the leading representatives of the Egyptian and British business community. Currently there are more than 900 British-invested companies operating in Egypt with cumulative investments estimated at $20 billion. The UK is the largest foreign investor in Egypt.
